How to Make Golden State Greens in 10 Minutes or Less

Ingredients: 1 cup white sugar 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1 1/4 cups water 2 cups flour 1/3 cup baking powder 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon 2 teaspoons salt 2 teaspoons baking soda 1/8 teaspoon black pepper 1 tablespoon soy sauce 2 teaspoons rice vinegar 1 tablespoon olive oil 2 tablespoons vinegar 1 teaspoon olive oil 1 teaspoon ground cumin 1/6 teaspoon kosher salt 1/16 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, to taste Directions: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Combine the sugar, granulated, water, and flour in a large bowl.

Add the baking powder, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, and black pepper.

Stir the ingredients together until well combined.

Place the wet ingredients in a small saucepan, and cook over medium-low heat until it starts to bubble.

Remove from the heat and set aside.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, vinegar, olive oil, and cumin.

Add this to the wet mixture and mix well.

Pour the liquid mixture into a large measuring cup and pour over the wet dough.

Using a spoon or spoon-like device, knead the dough until it forms a ball.

You may need to knead a bit to make the ball, but this is okay.

Roll the dough into a log and place it on a lightly floured surface.

Cut into 8-inch pieces.

Transfer the balls to a parchment-lined baking sheet, and place in the oven for 10 minutes.

When the rolls are done, they will have a thin crust.

If they seem too dry, they are ready for more flour.

Remove them from the oven, and brush them with olive oil.

Serve warm or at room temperature.

Recipe Notes: *If you’d rather not use the brown sugar and use a vegetable-base, use the sweet potato instead.


Heat the oil in a saucepan over medium heat.

Add both sweet potatoes and cook until soft, about 2 minutes.


Remove the sweet potatoes from the pan and set on a paper towel-lined plate.

Transfer to a bowl and add the rice vinegar and vinegar to taste.


Add salt to taste and add a teaspoon of ground cum to taste to taste, if desired.


Add olive oil to the pan, and add 1 teaspoon of olive oil in batches to the hot oil.

Add more to taste as desired.


Once the rice mixture is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon, add the beans and cook for 3 minutes.

Remove and let cool on a wire rack.


Serve with roasted green peppers, sweet potato salad, or pasta and a sprinkle of salt.
