CASSANDRA JOY GREENE is a contender for the 2017 AFL Rising Star award

Caroline Joy Greene is the reigning Rising Star candidate for 2017.

The 22-year-old has been a key member of the Brisbane Lions and the Brisbane Broncos, with her selection for the All Australian team for the past three years.

She played 17 games for the Broncos last season, and is also a member of Brisbane’s Women’s squad.

Her strong season was helped by the inclusion of her cousin, former Brisbane Lions skipper, Shannon Hinchliffe.

Joy is expected to play a key role in Brisbane’s defence as she continues to hone her skills in the VFL.

Joy played 14 games last season for the Brisbane Blues, and was a key player in their finals series win over Carlton.

She also had an impact on the Blues’ season, kicking seven goals and assisting another in the Blues win over North Melbourne.

Joy was a standout in Brisbane during the VLFC premiership season and has impressed in the pre-season.

Joy made her AFL debut against Richmond in Round 15 last year.

She played seven games for Brisbane, kicking three goals and helping two more.

She was a constant threat in the midfield and was used to cover wide-left flank.

In 2016, Joy was named a Rising Star after playing a vital role in the Lions’ VFL premiership victory.

She finished with seven goals for the Lions.

The Lions also received a bonus point in Round 1 after Joy was involved in the final four seconds of the match-winning goal against the Western Bulldogs.
